Events Roundup
Aug. 27, 2026
This week, we're highlighting an event pick by Taproot reporter Colin Gallant. Colin recommends Music for Mavericks Presents... E-LYMPIA... 20 Years of Music, Art & Culture, where Arlo Maverick and friends will celebrate 20 years of building Edmonton's music scene.
Music for Mavericks Presents... E-LYMPIA... 20 Years of Music, Art & Culture
📅 Friday, Aug. 28 2:00 PM
📍 Old Strathcona Performing Arts Centre
E‑LYMPIA marks a historic reunion celebrating two decades of Music for Mavericks, the Edmonton label that helped define the city's hip‑hop, R&B, and reggae identity. This special night brings the family back together with live performances from cornerstone artists including Politic Live, Kreesha Turner, K‑Riz, Oozeela, Mouraine, and other Mavericks alumni whose voices and vision shaped the movement.
Here's what Colin had to say:
"I love seeing rappers from Edmonton perform because art comes from life experience that happens where you live. As much as I love legends such as Missy Elliott and Tyler, The Creator, I get more out of Edmonton acts because they teach me something about the place I call home. I've interviewed Arlo, as well as fellow performer Mouraine, and they both made me understand the city a bit better. Heck, in a sense, they helped build it."
