  • The federal government is investing $650,413 in crime prevention efforts to help improve safety in Edmonton's downtown core. The funding, delivered through the Crime Prevention Action Fund, will support initiatives focused on strengthening local partnerships, improving access to services, and enhancing public spaces, particularly for vulnerable groups such as youth and high-risk individuals.
  • Edmonton's Norwood Legion has been closed since early February and will sell its aging building east of downtown. Officials cited "administrative reasons" for the shutdown, with members now planning to relocate. The branch, known as the "Fun Legion," has struggled with financial and infrastructure issues. Events and programming have been cancelled or moved during the closure.
  • Edmonton city council is moving forward with its Bus Rapid Transit plan, with two initial routes targeted to start operating in five or more years, Postmedia reported. Route B1 will connect Castle Downs to Century Park, and B2 will run from West Edmonton Mall to Bonnie Doon Centre, both passing through the University of Alberta area. The dedicated bus lanes aim to improve transit efficiency. Council expects a finalized route proposal later in 2026.
  • Edmonton Transit Service expanded operations in 2025, adding 50,000 annual service hours and new fare payment options to improve reliability and convenience, according to its annual service plan. The changes boosted frequency on key routes, including service to the Edmonton International Airport, and added 20 buses to the fleet. ETS also introduced Arc tap-to-pay in December, helping drive ridership to 61.8 million trips. Officials say 2026 plans will focus on reallocating service, increasing safety staffing and advancing major transit projects, including the Valley Line West LRT.
  • Edmonton-based space blogger Zachary Aubert is covering the historic Artemis II launch from Kennedy Space Center in Florida, where astronauts will travel around the Moon for the first time in 53 years. Aubert, who created The Launch Pad YouTube channel, which has more than 727,000 subscribers, is among the 800 members of the press invited. The mission crew includes Canadian astronaut Jeremy Hansen. Local enthusiasts can join a watch party at the TELUS World of Science – Edmonton.
